Boardsie, and Business/Social Media/Technology Geek

Alastair speaking at Dublin City HallHello Boardsies! This is my blog, or one of them, at least! I’ve been a Boards.ie user since Day 0 back in Feb 1998 – at least we *think* it was February but that’s a discussion for another day.

Boards.ie - Ireland's largest online community

My name on boards.ie is Trojan. Why? Because when we started boards, we used it almost exclusively to organise teams for online games, particularly Quake. My nickname in the gaming community was Trojan. All of the original boards members have names that might appear a bit strange to “normal” people, e.g the CEO is DeVore, the community manager is Kharn, etc.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? Ego illos custodiam.

I am not an employee of boards, but I’ve been a voluntary administrator on the site since about 2005 when the original admins decided to share the load and move some of the day to day work off their shoulders. I was quite active as an admin for the first 2-3 years, but now, as one of a slowly expanding pool of admins, I tend to dip in and out of my duties a lot more – depending on my workload elsewhere. I’m particularly interested in watching the direction of boards, and I learn a lot about communities and even the dreaded “social networking” from the site.
